I have walked several times in this area. What can I say? It's totally different now. This island is now enlarged and high-rise apartments stand over it. Still, there are some small shops there which sell fish (seaweed) foods that have its name: tsukuda-ni or つくだに. We may visit the place if you like.
I saw mostly "pleasure boats" and a few fishing boats. They are not many. They don't fish in the Sumida River. They go out and fish in the Tokyo Bay, I believe. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/coolred/2163212218/ par example.)
